Live From New York!

I'm having a great time in New York. After Devon got home from work last night we decided to go to Times Square and try our hand at getting tickets to "Wicked." I had heard that you can often get really discounted tickets by just going to the ticket window a half hour before the show starts and if there are any seats available they will sell them to you at a discounted rate. That probably works better with a less popular show and during the off season. We weren't surprised to find that the show was sold out. So, we just did the touristy Times Square thing instead. We went to the Hershey's store, the M and M's store, and Toys R Us. Then walked to Rockefeller Center. There is so much going on in this city and so many people and so many weird and unique people. We got home pretty late and then stayed up talking until about midnight and by the time I laid down to sleep after a shower it was almost 1. I have a stinky cold and so that discomfort kept me up until almost 2, consequently I slept until 10:30 this morning!! Devon is at work and so I am taking it easy this morning. I put some pics on Facebook but will wait to put pics on my blog until I am home because I'm having technical problems...In a little while I will be walking to the Metropolitan Museum of Art where I will spend a couple of hours until Devon gets off of work. Not sure what our plans are tonight yet. We were going to go back to Times Square and try again but I ended up buying a ticket online for the matinee show tomorrow. Yes, my friends, (unless I've been scammed...) I will be seeing Wicked tomorrow!! Sooooo excited, but a bit nervous (about the scamming part--I looked up everything online and it all seems legit...). Well, I'm off to get ready for my day in the big city! Check Facebook for pics and if I'm not your friend on Facebook then friend me! :0)

The Big Apple

Hello from NYC! I flew in today to visit with an old friend...actually a girl I used to babysit but she is more than a friend and more than a girl I used to babysit for...more like family. I've known her since she was four and we've kept in touch all these years--she's twentysomething now and living the big life in New York--well, for another month or so anyway. I flew in today on probably one of the worst flights I've ever been on--the seats were tiny with almost no leg room and to get a drink you had to pay $3. Ridiculous! But, I'm here now and that's all that matters. I'm just waiting for Devon to get home from work so that the fun can begin! The kiddos are in GA with my family and happy to be there without me. It's kind of an adventure to be at Grammy and Pop's without Mom. Joe woke me up at about 6:30 this morning and told me, "It's time to wake up and go to Yew Nork!" I think I'll be calling this place "Yew Nork" from now on. I'm not sure what we are going to do but will be planning our itinerary tonight. I know I want to eat Chinese food and see a Broadway show but that's about all I am sure of. I'd love to get tickets to see "Wicked" but we'll see. I imagine it is usually sold out and if I can get tickets they would have to be deeply discounted. I'll try to post pictures while I'm here!
From the Big Apple...Peace out my friends!

Pictures from GA

We had big plans Monday evening to go to a minor league baseball game but unfortunately it was cancelled due to rain. We had fun while waiting though and even got to see a dance group that did a lot of breakdance style dancing. I loved it!

Today we made a trip up to the mountains with the traditional stop at Jaemor Farms for some boiled peanuts, fried pies, and homemade peach ice cream.

This t-shirt cracked me up! I've seen it as a bumper sticker and get a chuckle every time.

Ramblings on a Rainy Afternoon

The kids and I are in GA visiting my family. Right now it's raining--I love a good GA rain. I hope it stops soon though because we have tickets to a minor league baseball game tonight that we are all looking forward to. There is a great $1 movie here and we went today and saw "Marmaduke," what a cute movie!! I loved all the personalities of the dogs. It was great! I think we will be going to see "How to Train Your Dragon" on Wednesday. Gotta take advantage of $1 movies! I think we are headed to the mountains tomorrow--you know what that means...fried pies and boiled peanuts! It's all about the food of course.
There is a reason that I hate to shop--when I shop I find out all the wonderful things that are out there to be had. I seldom have the money to buy all of those wonderful things so I try to not shop much. Well, today I went to visit my sister at work this morning and she works at this cute little gift shop kind of place and they sell Vera Bradley bags and purses. Well, I have a total love affair with Vera Bradley! Unfortunately, it's so expensive! The few VB bags that I have came off of ebay or were given to me. I found the most wonderful bag today. A bag that I NEED, well, maybe not need but really, really want really, really bad! Anyway, I posted about it on Facebook and got lots of encouragement to just buy the purse but I also heard from Kris that she has one very similar that I can have. God is good and always provides our needs but sometimes even provides our wants too.
I'm reading the funniest book right now--"Pride and Prejudice and Zombies." It is pretty much the exact Pride and Prejudice story with zombie attacks thrown in. Two of the main characters, Elizabeth and Jane are amazing warriors against the zombies. If you have read Pride and Prejudice and have a bit of a warped sense of humor--you really should read this. It's a riot!
Well, it's time to go and make tacos!!

More Charlie Brown pictures

Here are some pictures from the show itself. The photographer guy got some great pictures of Hannah and everybody else of course.

You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown

Hannah played Sally in "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" the last two nights. She and all of the cast members did a great job! This was the first time her theatre group has done a show with such a small group of kids and it was a huge hit. Who doesn't love Charlie Brown though? I will be posting videos from the show on my "channel" on Youtube. Just go to Youtube and search for "bookwormmomof3" and they will be there later today. Hannah was Sally, the girl in the blue dress was Lucy, yellow dress was "that little red headed girl," orange dress was Frida, of course you know who Snoopy and Charlie Brown are, and the boy in the red shirt is Linus and the purple shirt is Schroeder.
Landon was there on opening night wearing a Charlie Brown onesie so he got to be in some photos.

Hannah and Madi are doing the "Knowing a secret..." part from "Happiness."

Loft Beds are Done!

Wow! Three men sure can work fast--the loft beds are done. One big help is that Joel had platforms already built sitting in his garage that worked perfectly as beds. So, after half a day's work we have really cool loft beds. Now I'm off to Joann Fabrics to find Joe a "mattress" for his temporary little bed. The kids are beyond thrilled and so am I!

After the work was done we feasted on Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches.
And...the kids get to try out their new digs. I couldn't really get a picture of the whole thing because it fills most of the room. After all of our travels are over we'll be painting the beds and adding curtains underneath so each child has their own space.

It's Loft Bed Day!

The back bedroom is almost completely empty and ready for new loft beds!!! Ollie and our friend, Joel will be building loft beds today--I don't think they will be conventional loft beds, they may even end up being something like a second floor in their room, kind of like Laura and Mary had...I'll post pics later!
