Daybook Style....

I am having the hardest time blogging this week and last week and maybe even the week before.  I sit down at the computer and everything I think to say sounds dumb and pointless and then I delete it and move on to something else.  It helps for me to do a Daybook style or a Seven Quick Takes and I know I should link up to these people and maybe I will someday...I know I'm totally stealing their ideas and all that jazz.  I don't think my readership is such that it's a big concern though.  I don't even know if any of you out there read this anymore besides Julie who is a faithful commenter.  :0)

On my mind...right now my big thought is---it's Valentine's day and I should do something special for my kids.  I'm thinking about  making pink chocolate chip pancakes but I need to get started soon if I'm going to do that.  I am not a good holiday celebrator.  I'm just not.  I do fine with Christmas but all of these other little holidays are hard to get into for me.  Especially now that the kids are older.  I was going to buy them those heart boxes full of chocolate last night but they were so expensive!  So, instead I bought a bag of conversation hearts and a bag of M & M's and will fill a bowl with each.  I didn't even pull out any of our Valentine decorations (we don't have much) this year.  Ollie and I aren't good at really doing holidays together either.  We don't do cards or gifts or flowers on Valentine's.  We do try to have a special dinner and trade off years cooking.  Tonight I'll be making dinner and he'll be making dessert.  We'll also watch a movie later.  Lame I know.

Facebook....I've been cheating on my February FB Fast and I have lots of good reasons every time I cheat.  The big snowstorm in GA had me especially curious and checking frequently.  The week or so that I was truly off FB though was really nice and I got used to missing everything and was okay with it.  I'm especially glad to not be on it today because I don't want to see everything people are doing and getting for Valentine's day.  I plan to continue my fast starting again today.  It really was good for me, sort of de-toxing my brain.  When I was cheating though, I came across this really great article -- 18 Things Everyone Should Start Making Time for Again.

What I'm reading...I have been reading a lot, even for short bits in the middle of the day.  I absolutely LOVED Where'd You Go, Bernadette?  It was a great read and I read it in less than 24 hours a couple of weekends ago.  Then I read two books by Rainbow Rowell.  They are written for a Young Adult audience but I would rather my young adults not read them for a few more years.  They are full of language and other "adult" content but I have to say that I loved the books.  I read Eleanor and Park and also Fangirl.  I really loved Fangirl.  I loved the main character and her story.  I just wish there weren't so many bad words in it...
Right now I've started Sycamore Row by John Grisham.  It's got some of the same characters as A Time to Kill.  I recently read somewhere that Grisham is a christian and although his books are not overtly christian, they are clean and full of characters who have strong moral convictions and integrity.  On my nightstand is another Rainbow Rowell book and two Jojo Moyes books.  I especially loved, Me Before You by Moyes and I'm hoping her other books are good as well.

Around the house...after about 3 months of unusually busy life and quite a bit of traveling, we are entering into a few months of what I like to call NORMAL! life.  My children assure me that our life is never normal and they are right but at least for a few months, we will be home (except for maybe a quick trip to GA thrown in over a weekend) and concentrating on school and theatre and normal activities on the weekends.  I have a few projects around the house I'm working on.  I'm changing the decor on a few of the walls and adding a big picture wall that will have pictures of everyone in our family (both sides) represented.  Also, adding some paintings by a few local artists to my wall of art done by Hannah and Grace.  Pictures will be forthcoming once these projects are completed.

From the schoolroom...school is going well and overall we've had a good school year.  I feel like we've been juggling school around so many other activities and commitments and I'm looking forward to school being our primary focus each day for the next few months.  I know that many homeschoolers are not fond of virtual school but I love it.  My girls do so well with virtual school and are so good at working independently and keeping up with it.  I'm planning for Hannah to take more virtual school classes next year.  We'll stick with English and Science for her and Grace and possibly Joe.  Hannah will also do a few electives through virtual school next year as well.

From the kitchen...I'm still struggling to decide what to make for dinner every day and not enjoying cooking at all!  I went to the store on Tuesday though and stocked the fridge with vegetables that I'm determined to cook and not let rot now that we've returned to NORMAL! life.  We'll see.  My new favorite way to eat all vegetables is tossed in olive oil, salt, and garlic powder and roasted in the oven.  Especially broccoli!  I have to buy at least two heads of broccoli when I make this because the whole family loves it.

Okay, my time is up.  If I'm going to go make Valentine pancakes I need to get started because I have to tutor in less than an hour.  Next up will be a big picture post!

Loads of Pictures to Share!

I spent a couple of hours going through the 2000ish pictures Gabi took while he was here...here is a sampling of some of my favorites from their time here this past month.
