Mendenhall Glacier

I finally get what a glacier is and what a glacier does and what a glacier looks like because I saw one (actually a few!) in person.  I'm pretty sure my kids now totally get glaciers too, there's no substitute for seeing it in real life.  This is the Mendenhall Glacier and it's huge!  As with many glaciers in Alaska, it's retreating but it's till unbelievably huge.  We spent a couple of hours at the visitor's center and walking the paths that got us closer to the glacier.

Love that pic of you and Aunt H. laughing! If you want to say "glacier" like a Kiwi, pronounce it glass-ee-er.
