The pictures in this post are all out of order and some may have already shown up in another post and some might show up again in another post but I wanted to put them all here too in a post of just pictures of some of the things we did on the boat when we weren't out adventuring. I don't have any pictures of the adults, we all spent a lot of time talking with other passengers, catching a nap here and there, reading, taking in the sights, and so on. I do have pictures of the kids though...Above is one afternoon when most of them were all hanging out coloring together. They always had cool coloring sheets available or they would just cover a table in white paper and the kids could draw. The person in the blue shirt next to Grace...that was one of the stewards/waiters. His name is Drew and he had fun goofing off with the kids. Most of the stewards could be found hanging out with the kids at some point. They colored with them, played games with them, and just in general had a fun time with the kids on board. Uncruise doesn't always have kids on their cruises and this week was special. It was one of three "Kids and Nature" cruises of the summer. I talked to a few of the crew members about it and they all talked about how fun it was to have the kids aboard. One was really enjoying all of the "good" food they were getting like gummy bears, goldfish, fruit snacks, and chicken nuggets. The crew all worked very hard but also all got some time to play. They could be seen going out on the expeditions, paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming, and as I mentioned before--hanging out with the kids.
Our wildlife list gets longer...
The last night we all gathered in the foward lounge (just a few feet from the dining room) for a slideshow of all of the fun from the week. One of the guides put it together and it was so fun to watch. After the slide show, two of the crew members put on a live concert and they were really good. In the picture above, you can see the musicians and that is Hannah in front of them making a little girl's dream come true...having her hair french braided. :0)
I tried to get pictures of as many crew members as I could...above is Dane who ran the "hotel" side of things. He wanted to pose with those bottles because he was behind the bar when I snagged him for a picture. Two pictures below is Heather, who's official title on the ship was bartender. She also served up a mean italian soda to the kids and made hundreds of shirley temples and cups of hot chocolate over the course of the week. She even made special chocolate whipped cream to go on the kids' hot chocolate. She was a lot of fun and made friends with everyone, young and old. She is also the one who dressed up in the hot pink gorilla suit...In the picture below, some of the kids, the expedition leader, Annie, and two of the young adults on the boat are playing a rousing game of Apples to Apples that went on for a couple of hours at least.
Heather the bartender and Derrick, Assistant Engineer. He came to our rescue with his engineering skills by fixing Joe's suitcase. :0)
The above picture was taken during whale watching one night. The girls are drinking hot chocolate, of course. Below, was a special dinner of all you could eat Dungeness Crab and steak. It was as good as it looks!
The gallery above grew as the week went on.
The hot tub was the place to be after these kids took a polar plunge into the cold water.
Above we have a game of Tenzies happening after dinner one night and below a picture with one of the waiters/stewards--Drew. This is the same guy seen coloring with the kids at the beginning of this post.
Above is Paul, another waiter/steward. He invented a drink that was wildly popular among the kids--a Tall Paul. I believe it was a mix of Powerade, lemonade, and a shot of every other flavor of soda available topped off with grenadine. Below is Sarah who waited on our table all week. She was wonderful, so nice and fun to talk to and she took great care of us, always remember that Jane was gluten free and that Ollie was allergic to chocolate. She had alternatives for them as needed at every meal.
As we were leaving the boat, the crew members all lined up to tell us goodbye. There were hugs all the way down the line. It was a small group of people and by the time we came to the end of the week many relationships had been built and we all knew one another and the crew as well. Like I keep saying, this was a very unique cruising adventure.
