American Idol

Adam Lambert rocked the house tonight, actually he didn't really rock anything, his song was more of a slow song.  I have NEVER seen Simon give anyone a standing ovation until Adam's performance tonight.  This is only my second season watching though, for you veteran AI fans--has he ever done that before?  

And--I got a good laugh over the picture of Adam dressed up as a vampire!  So funny after our discussion about him being a vampire.  

My top three tonight were Adam, Allison, and Matt.  I'm thinking Lil or Scott is going home tomorrow night.  We'll see.

TV talk and Other Random Thoughts on a Friday Morning

I can tell it's Friday because I don't want to do anything.  Now that we do Home Ec Tuesdays I do not have the freedom to take Fridays off from school.  For our first 4 years of homeschooling we always took Fridays off.  Not anymore...but, we do often get a late start on Fridays.  I've just given the kids an extra half hour to goof off while I pull myself together.  I've got the water boiling for some yummola instant coffee.  It doesn't even compare to Starbucks but it's fast and easy and will do.  

After school I want to head downtown to the Village Antique Fair.  Two years ago there was a trailer there full of Fiestaware.  I'm sure a lot of it is expensive but I'm hoping to find a bowl or two that is not expensive.  I want to start collecting Fiestaware random piece by random piece.  I can't afford a whole place setting but I can start piecing it together.  

My knee is really hurting today, not sure why but that doesn't mesh well with my plans to go walk around the antique fair looking for cheap Fiestaware.  Hoping time and Tylenol will help with that.  Because I'm going, in pain or not.  

The Office was a good one last night but I'm confused.  If anyone can enlighten me that would be great.  Why is Michael leaving?  Did he get fired and why?

I can't believe Matt Giraud was in the bottom three last night!  He's not as charismatic as some of the singers but is really good and should not be in the bottom three.  I loved Michael Sarver and hate to see him go but he was the right one.  He had a fab attitude--excited to be going on tour.  

Hannah and I have to make a BOATLOAD of Norwegian meatballs.  I am extremely intimidated...I think I will have to do that first and get it out of the way.  That's how I always handle things that are intimidating to me--dive right in and get it over with as soon as possible.  After my coffee and our Bible time we are going to be elbow deep in raw meat and egg--fun!

We finished our display yesterday and we are really happy with it.  It turned out great!  We have really had a lot of fun with International Day.  We did a Viking lapbook to go with it and I'm happy with that too.  Doing the research for it got me all excited about lapbooking.  I ordered one for Hannah to do about Africa.  It looked like a lot of fun.  Lapbooking is such a great way to learn!  

The kids just called me out to see a woodpecker.  It was a Pilleated one I think.  Does observing a woodpecker count as school?  Can we be done now?  

Everybody say hi to my friend, Peggy, from New Mexico.  She is my newest "mystery" follower. Peggy and I went to the University of New Mexico together both learning to be math teachers.  Peggy would totally appreciate my math geek shirts! 

I'm dying to do a puzzle, I need some quiet-focused-slowdownthebrain-puzzle time.  Maybe after I finish the second Twilight book.  I'm embarrased to say that I'm hooked.  Although it is about vampires, it is not gory, totally clean (no swearing, no sex) and a very gripping story.  I highly recommend it.  Try it, you'll like it.  C'mon Mikey.  

NoopDog is in the House!!

Wasn't AI exciting tonight???  I'm embarrassed to say that I came close to crying when Simon announced the "13th" in the top 12.  Noop almost cried too, he was truly speechless.  I am very happy with tonight's results especially since my fave, Megan, made it into the top 12.  Matt too.  I really like him as well.  What was up with Simon tonight?  He was so nice to everyone.  I think he only criticized one or two of them.  And, he was joking around with Paula.  He seemed happy.  Maybe they are relieved that this stage is over as well.  I'm excited for the more normal Idol next week.  It's a great top 12!  

For once I think I have nothing else to say.  Weird.

American Idol and Stuff

Last night was another rather disappointing Idol.  I'm so ready to be done with these preliminary rounds and get into the good stuff.  I only have one prediction tonight and that is Lil Rounds.  I really have no idea who the other two will be.  We'll find out soon though.  Alex's dancing was quite comical.  Poor guy, trying to be somebody he's not.  He kind of made a fool of himself but the judges weren't as ugly as I thought they'd be.  

Hannah is back to her normal self and so far no one else is showing any symptoms.  So, maybe it will start and stop with her.  I am hearing of so many families all getting sick.  The creeping crud is rampant in these parts right now.  Shelly's son, Micah, was in the hospital the last two days because he was looking septic and was just plain sick and they gave him IV antibioitics.  To go visit him I was required to wear a mask, gown, and gloves to protect myself from the flu.  They are really trying to stop the spread because they are seeing so many people in the hospital with complications of the flu.  I hung out for a few hours and wore my mask and smelled my own stinky breath all evening while watching American Idol.  It was fun.  Well, not smelling my own stinky breath.  

We went to the pet store today and purchased a few things for the bunnies.  One of those things was a leash.  So, the bunnies have been outside today on the leash.  Of course this has just added to the fun of having bunnies.  I wonder when and if these kids will tire of these girls.  I doubt that Grace will.  Animals are definitely her thing.  The kids went to a "Creepy Crawly" presentation at the library today and apparently the speaker asked Grace if she was on Animal Planet after she answered a whole bunch of really hard questions correctly.  She may not be so great at reading but she does have quite the mind for all things animal related, and science in general.  I love that with homeschooling she doesn't have to be ashamed about what she can't do and is allowed to work at her own pace.  At the rate she's going I imagine a year from now she will be caught up with her peers.  So far I don't think she even knows she's behind.  And, we can spend extra time on the subject she loves--science!  Don't quote me on this but I don't think the public schools in our area are able to spend as much time on science because so much of the school year is spent preparing for the standardized test that they take in early March.

American Idol Recap

Last night's show was a little boring again.  I can't wait for them to just get to the top 12.  The standouts last night were Allison, Adam Lambert, and Megan.  The girl with the weird name did a good job too but she made weird faces and that kind of messed it up for me.  Megan had a weird little hip swingy dance move too but it was kind of cute.  Adam rocked the house and was fun to watch.  I still like the dueling piano player--Matt Giraud and I'd love to see him make it through despite a bad night.  The welder--came across as cocky and boring.  I hate when they don't just take the advice of ALL FOUR judges and insist that they did a great job.  No humility or ability to take the criticism and grow from it.  I also really liked Jasmyn and think she has great potential.  I do not like the interchanges between Ryan Seacrest and Simon.  Especially when they are full of sexual innuendo.  My kids are watching for crying out loud.  Granted most of it probably goes over their head but still.  Not to mention that it's awkward and weird.  They just need to shut up.  

So, my predictions for who's staying are Allison, Adam, and then it's between Megan, Jasmyn, and Matt.  We'll see tonight...

Idol Again

I just have to put in my two cents here.  I was thrilled with the results of tonight's show.  I think it was right on with who deserved to get through.  Tatiana even held herself together mostly.  I would not be a bit surprised if she isn't the wild card pick--she or Anoop.  The kids and I prayed for Tatiana tonight.  I told the girls that she needed Jesus because she had built her house on shifting sand and needed that solid rock to stand on.  I truly feel sad for her.  She is not emotionally stable and I think it would be hard to be her.  

I was thrilled to see Michael Johns and Carly!  That was a fun surprise.  I was also happy to hear that he has an album coming out soon.  

American Idol and other stuff

Last night was a little disappointing and even a little on the boring side.  Aside from a few really great performances these people did terrible!!!  I think Alexis Grace will be the only girl out of this group left in the running (unless the wild card pick is a girl).  For the other two spots I think it will be Danny Gokey for sure and then either Anoop Desai, Michael Sarver, or Ricky Braddy.  And, what was up with Tatiana???  She acted so normal, but we know she's not normal so what's up?  Is there a split personality there or did somebody tell her how stupid she acted during Hollywood week???  She was so calm last night it was almost scary.  I will say that she sounded great though.  Usually if anybody tries to sing Whitney Houston they bomb it but she sounded really good.  She's just weird and unpredictable.  Unpredictable makes me nervous.  Grace was funny last night after Alexis Grace sang.  Alexis has a two year old at home and Grace said that she likes Alexis but doesn't want her to go through because she thinks that Alexis needs to be home with her little girl.  

We are reading "Treasures of the Snow,"  I forgot how great this book is!  I love it.  I have two copies if someone wants to have one of them let me know.  The gist of the story is that there is this bully who causes an accident to happen to an angelic little boy and the book centers around this bully dealing with what he has done and the sister of the angelic little boy dealing with unforgiveness toward the bully and in the end the bully accepts Jesus as his Savior and the girl is part of that and with God's help forgives him.  Great book!

I am loving the trampoline!  It is helping the kids with school by providing them a place to get their wiggles out.  They do some school and then go jump for 5 minutes and then do a little school and go jump for 5 more minutes.  Grace takes her math out to the trampoline and does her work out there.  It's really been fun for them.  Let's hope and pray that no one breaks his or her neck.  I taught Grace how to do a mini flip last night (knee drop/flip) and Ollie told me that doing those fancy tricks is how kids get hurt.  Isn't learning to do flips the whole purpose of a trampoline???  

Well, their 5 minute break is up and it's time to hit the books!  I've changed up school a little bit (again).  I will post about that later!

American Idol

There were some great moments on tonight's show as they narrowed the contestants down to 36.  I'm thrilled that some of my favorites made it through--Megan Corsomethingorother, Stevie Wright, Danny Gokey, Noop-dog, Michael Sarver, and lots more.  I'm not happy that Tatiana made it to the top 36.  Yes, she can sing but she's so ANNOYING!!!!  And so emotional.  Between her and Nathaniel there is going to be some serious drama.  Maybe that's why they are in the top 36.  I did soften towards Nathaniel tonight though when they showed his story and interviewed his grandma.  He is one lost kiddo and I am afraid the pressure of the show is going to be tough on him.  He will likely get voted off early and probably won't take it well.  Just sayin'.  So, Joe has decided that he loves Tatiana.  I think he is only saying this because he knows how much I can't stand her, he loves to disagree with me.  He is funny though, talking little boy smack.  He kept saying to me, "you're a fan, you're a fan, you're a fan of Tatiana," in that singsong little voice kids are so good at.  He also kept telling me, "She's awesome, I love her."  Grace likes her too and gave me a short lecture about judging people based on their personality.  Grace says she is a great singer and because of that she really likes her.  Quality family time happening at our house thanks to American Idol.

A few more thoughts--I think the sing off thing they did tonight was just plain cruel.  The one who won could hardly be excited for him or herself because they had to show sympathy to the other.  Especially putting two friends up against each other.  I love it though that both tough guys got through.  I thought Jen should have won out over Kristen.  I'm not liking Kristen, she plays the victim and it's awkward.  I felt bad for Jamar not getting through when his buddy Danny did.  He handled it so well though.  Very mature.  I think I like Nick/Norman.  Not sure but he is funny.  I hope he goes on the show as Norman Gentle.  I'm getting way too into this show.  I actually kept a list of the top 36 tonight.  Somehow I missed one though.  At the end I only had 35.  Am I a nerd or what???
