Europe 2016...Kirkwall, Scotland

Next stop...the Orkney Islands and Kirkwall.  This was actually our second time here, we went to Kirkwall last year on our cruise.  When we were in Kirkwall before, we visited two really cool places, both were sort of museums.  This time in Kirkwall, we took our adventure outside for a "Majestic Cliff and Sea Cave Walk."  It was incredibly beautiful, completely majestic, pictures don't do it justice but of course we tried and took tons of pictures.  The weather was absolutely perfect, the sun was shining and it even warmed up enough to take our jackets off eventually!

In the picture above, Joe is adding a stone to the cairn to mark his visit to this spot.  We all added a stone to this one.

Above...Cheryl is taking pictures of her shoes...there are pictures of her shoes from all over the British Isles.  Check out the hashtag #adventuresoftheredshoe on Instagram!
In the picture below...look closely, that is H and B way across the chasm from us.  In the picture below that one, Grace is sitting on the edge of a CLIFF.  I didn't know this until Cheryl came running up from that exact spot telling me how high it is and how she just freaked herself out sitting on the edge of it.

After our morning sea walk, we went back to the ship, had some lunch and then Cheryl and I went into the town.  It's a cute little town and we enjoyed our walk and stopped for tea in a cute little coffee shop.  We walked around the church and the graveyard there as well.

All of these clay poppies pouring out of this window was so cool to see.  It's called the "Poppies Weeping Window" and commemorates the anniversary of the Battle of Jutland from WWI.  We actually saw a lot of different memorials around the UK while we were there commemorating various battles from WWI.  The red poppy is the symbol used in these memorials, we saw lots of silk flower arrangements all over the place but this one is definitely the most stunning.
