Europe 2016...Liverpool, England...part one

Next stop...Liverpool, England.  We had an extra long day at this port and our planned excursion wasn't until noon so Cheryl and I got up and off the ship early to do some sightseeing and look for Beatles stuff.  The Beatles and famous Beatles locations and cool Beatles stuff wasn't hard to find at all!

This Starbucks was hard to find though but we managed and indulged in a tasty hot beverage as we journeyed into the world of the Beatles.  There is Beatles inspired art everywhere in the city, including some jelly bean Beatles art that will be in the next post!  After stopping lots of people and asking for directions, we finally found the Cavern Pub and it's sister pub...The Cavern Club, this was where they Beatles got their start!  We were there very early in the morning and so nothing was opened but we went back later and actually got to go into the Cavern Club.  More on that in the next post.  We took lots of pictures and even made Pop a video that we texted to him right away so he could "join" us by way of technology again.

This man below is the concierge at the Hard Day's Night hotel.  He noticed that we were clearly tourists and immediately offered to take our picture and then invited us into the hotel to see all of the Beatles memorabilia they had there.  He even took a selfie with us!  He was a very sweet Liverpoolian.

Of course we did some souvenir shopping as soon as the stores were open and eventually made our way back to the ship.  The pier where the ship was docked was full of interesting shops and other attractions.  It was pretty quiet that morning but was buzzing by the time we came back later.  One of the workers in one of the shops said that lots of people from the surrounding towns were coming into Liverpool to see the Disney Magic and the fireworks for the Queen's birthday that would be later that night.  As we drove around the city later, we saw so many little girls dressed up as princesses.  I noticed in one of the shops at the pier that they were offering free ferry rides to kids dressed up.

This 1940s house was really interesting.  We walked through it and I tried to bring the kids back later but it was closed by then.

These locks are all over Europe, I always love seeing them.  :0)  After this we went back to the ship, had some lunch and got ready for our afternoon city bus tour.  It took us to two different churches.  The church below is the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King.  It was beautiful inside and there were little chapels all around the edge of the sanctuary.  The stained glass was amazing.

After we left here, we drove through the city some more and went to another church.  To be continued...
