A Future Fashion Designer?

Ever since Hannah could walk and talk she has been into fashion. Her first full sentence was "I pick a dress." I would hold her up in front of her closet while she picked a dress everyday, multiple times a day. She also went through a pretty long phase where she could outfit herself quite nicely given a blanket or a towel, and some clothespins. I could go on and on with stories about her and fashion but this post is about her latest passion. Fashion design. She's been drawing princesses and women in all sorts of dresses for years but while in GA back in September we had the opportunity to meet and talk to a real fashion designer while sitting at a park. This woman had a sketchbook full of designs and needless to say Hannah was enthralled and has since started her own sketchbook. Below are a few samples of her designs.

She's now taken this fashion designing one step further using her little sister as her model. I have a pretty big stash of fabric and she finds large pieces and designs all sorts of dresses with them. I usually don't get pictures (and some of them are pretty bad--wouldn't need a picture) but I thought this one was really nice so I snapped a pic. Her only complaint--not enough safety pins in our house to hold together her creations. On her Christmas list is a big box of safety pins. We are going to a fairy party on Friday and she is thinking she might design something for the party--the only glitch--not enough safety pins!

I don't know if this is something she will continue to pursue as she gets older but it will be interesting to see.

That is awesome! I had a friend in high school who made almost all of her own clothes and even made her own prom dress...one of the prettiest dresses I've ever seen. What a great talent to have...

Her sketches are so interesting! I love the notes about the fabric. I would definitely get that girl some safety pins for Christmas. The dress Grace is wearing is beautiful.

Hey Debi--thanks for telling me about the "Flair for Fashion" contest. Hannah has about 15 entries already. Now I just have to fill out 15 entry forms and buy a book of stamps. You can enter as many times as you want but it all has to be in separate mailings. She and Grace have had the MyTwinn catalog out all day and already have their wish list of what they will buy if Hannah wins. Maybe I'll take some pictures of her designs tomorrow.

How totally AWESOME!!! She's so talented.

You absolutely have to come over for a visit. She needs to see what Still Waters drew for Soaring Amongst The Clouds for 18th birthday. Hannah will flip!
