What Would You Do?
Today is our Home Ec day and as I mentioned yesterday Hannah's room is a MESS!!! Today was the day to get it cleaned up. She had been in her room maybe 10 minutes and came out freaking out because there was a spider. I went in and yes, indeed there was a spider and it was quite large. We do not kill spiders around here and especially not big ones like this one because honestly, I am too scared to get close enough to kill a spider that big. I just ignore them and let them go about their business. This spider was under her dresser and not coming out but she was hysterical and wouldn't go back in her room. So, after wanting to freak out myself because of the hysterics I went to my room to cool down and decided what to do. I decided that she wouldn't have to clean her room this morning but that it would have to be done before she goes to bed and before she watches American Idol. She has theatre until 6:30, we aren't home until 7 and she has to eat dinner and her room is a huge mess. I think there may still be hysterics but Ollie will be home and he deals with the hysterics way better than I do (and the spiders). So, I'm curious...what would you have done? Would you have made her stay in there and clean it anyway?

Tough question - I think I would have killed the spider. Well, actually, I would have told my boys to do it. :) I would have provided lifting assistance for the dresser, and maybe a bounty for the spider's head. Not that I would have looked at it. I would trust that it was captured, and flushed.
So, long story short, I would be watching for that spider at every turn every time I moved, so to avoid that stress, I'd call in the exterminators, aka my boys.
Obviously, this doesn't help you at all, but now I know my plan of "attack" for the next spider incidence around here...
Kill the spider! If you know where it is...kill it! Then it's dead...she goes to bed tonight not worrying about it getting her. Spiders are mobile--it could move before Ollie gets home?! One more thing...make sure its "real" before the fight ensues. Just flashing back to our fight over the spider that turned out to be a halloween ring.
Doesn't Grace like bugs? Pay her!
While I don't "dig" hysterics I also try to not have Anna Grace do something that I'd also have trouble doing. And while messy rooms make me crazy, spiders make me go bezerk. So.. I wouldn't make Anna Grace go in there while the spider is in there. But once that spider is gone..... well you know the rest.
I would have grabbed a shoe and killed the spider, picked the dead spider up with a tissue and told her to get to work. Or I also keep on hand spider spray. Dead on the spot and done.
But that is me and my no nonsense type of parenting. And spiders don't freak me out too much.
I don't like spiders... he'd of been a goner...
Since American Idol is only for losers then you are doing her a favor by not making her watch it
