The Big Freeze is Coming!

For those of you who don't know this interesting fact about my husband--he is a tropical fruit enthusiast.  We have over 30 varieties of tropical and subtropical fruits growing in our yard.  A freeze is a pretty big deal around here.  So, we spent a couple of hours trying to protect the most tropical and most special trees.  Which ones made the cut??  The jackfruit, four lychees, atemoya, and black sapote.  Our methods?  lots of plastic, a space heater, some Christmas lights, and misters.  We'll see how they fare in the morning.

I laid sheets on my garden, so we will see what happens. The sheets really don't look like they are going to protect much...now maybe an electric blanket...

I was thinking of you guys today - thought you'd be in the garden. Hope all goes well with the freeze.

Levi really likes your star fruit tree. How did it do?

So you guys were out in the cold wind wrapping plants too! And Leisa as well. It's a pretty cold club to be in, isn't it? How did they do?

Our trees did great. We have some brown leaves but the trees are alive and well.

Tiff those trees look very futuristic with that plastic bag over them. Did that help the freeze?
