Overheard at Target today...
As I was walking into Target there was a woman in front of me scolding (if you could call it that) her child for hanging on the cart. First she said--"get your a#$ off of that." Then--"I'm gonna knock you out." Then--"Okay, just hold on if you are going to do that." How's that for discipline? I almost had to laugh but was concerned she might "knock me out." Apparently her child is used to be talked to like that and used to not obeying. She was completely unfazed by the whole thing.

That reminds me of a picnic we were at in CT this summer...
the mom: "Lucas, put the stick down"....nothing happens
"Lucas, be careful with the stick"...still nothing "Zachary, don't go near him when he has that stick"
Although I do think that I sometimes change my own discipline midstream because of laziness.
How totally sad! I can't stand to hear parents talk that way to children. I wonder if they really know the damage they are doing. :o(
Last night at Chili's a 5 year old girl started to whine because she wanted to put ketchup in her macaroni and cheese. She pouted, laid her head over her arms on the table and started to cry. Dad gave in and she was all smiles when she lifted her head. Wow, she knew exactly what to do. Guess what that little girl has learned? She'll be playing mind games with her husband once she marries. How sad is that! :o(

Scott's Godmother tells the story of overhearing a mom say to her child, "I'm going to smack your face OFF." It's always stuck. How mad do you have to be to smack someone's face OFF? Sad isn't it?
That's really sad... And I hear things like that all the time... What Mother could ever say something like that to their child....
