Hannah went to spend the night at a friend's house last night and Gracie was feeling sad. So, I decided to teach her to sew. I've been telling her that we would do this for a few days. I was surprised at how well she did. She picked it up right away and made two small quilt blocks. She plans to make a quilt for Hannah's stuffed dog. She added a third block to her collection today. She did this hand stitching while I worked on my Christmas quilt and she talked the entire time. She reminds me so much of myself. She was so into what she was doing and so excited about it. She is so happy to have a talent of her own that Hannah doesn't have (yet). She thinks all her friends will be so excited that she can sew. She thinks she may start a sewing club and she and some friends can get together and sew and then also bring projects that they've done to show each other (wonder where she got this idea). She also thinks that hand stitching is much better than machine stitching (she proclaimed this while I was having issues with my machine). She thinks it's best to do things the old fashioned way. I really enjoyed my time with her, working on our separate projects. A little note about my Christmas quilt--I'm keeping it under wraps until the big unveiling in November. At least that's my plan, we'll see if I can resist posting pictures. I will say that so far it is pretty crazy and a little hard on the eyes. I love it.

Well done Grace!! I LOVE the colors in your quilt block.
I think the sew club for kids is a GREAT idea!!! Once a month maybe? Grace can host it! We can all agree on a project and then just show up with it and have a little social time!!! Sounds great! No pressure, just little stuff that THEY (NOT US!) do. What do you think?
Love it! Maddy is sewing on the machine, and I just started Liv hand sewing with a needle and thread. I love that we can all sit and sew together.
I say let's do it. They can each bring a simple project they are working on or have completed. A small quilt, a pin cushion, something like that. Even a pillowcase is pretty easy if you are not doing it the old fashioned way. I have also started the girls cross stitching. They have little Christmas kits at Joann's for a dollar. I'll plan a day in October to start.

Hey MDAF- I bought that sewing book for kids if you want any ideas. Totally count Mimi in-she's dying to sew anything. I think the book has a pillow case, pin cushion, etc. She's getting it for her birthday in just over 2 weeks.
